Long journeys soon get boring, don’t they? Whether you’re on a plane, bus, or train, there’s something about travelling that makes the time drag. If you’ve got one of these dreaded long journeys coming up, you may well be hunting for ideas for what to do with this seemingly wasted time. Well, it doesn’t have to be wasted. You can use your time wisely, whether investing in some well-deserved ‘me-time’ or in something productive. Here are the ideas that have worked best for us!
Playing Travel Games
If you’re travelling alone, you can download games on your phone or portable console, or even grab a deck of cards. And if you’ve got company? The possibilities are endless – think travel versions of chess, Monopoly, Battleship, and more.

Writing a Diary
Don’t already keep a diary? Now’s a great time to start. A diary is a fantastic way of practising mindfulness, and you may find it to be a sentimental read or memory-jerker in years to come!
Checking Out Online Casinos
If you can get internet access on your journey, online casinos can be a great source of entertainment, as well as a good earner if you know what you’re doing – and have a little luck too! Some websites might even offer something like this party casino bonus code to get you started.
Reading a Book
An oldie but a goody, reading a book is the ultimate in relaxation and it offers great mindfulness too. Plus, it’s good for your brain, giving it something to focus on, think about, and learn from. You can choose from a physical paper book or you can download something on your phone or tablet – the choice is yours!
I love my Amazon Kindle for saving space and carrying plenty of books with me as I travel. If you’ve got one or are thinking of getting one I recommend you watch this video.
Listening to an Audiobook
If you’re not a big fan of reading, or you tend to suffer from travel sickness when you do, an audiobook can be the perfect solution. They’re so popular now that you might even find one of your favourite TV stars as the narrator of the book you want to read. Bonus!
Thanks to the likes of Netflix and downloadable content, these days, you can watch TV from pretty much anywhere! If you can’t access any Wi-Fi, you can always download your favourite TV show or movie onto your phone or tablet before you leave home.
Catching Up on Your Correspondence
Life is busy, and most of us get behind with keeping in touch with our friends and family now and again. Use this time to reply to unanswered texts, ping out a couple of emails, or even catch up on the phone or via Skype – just be sure to be considerate to those around you…you don’t want to be that person.
Listening to Podcasts
Whether you’re a newbie to the world podcasts or you’ve got several favourites that you love to catch up on, now’s the time to listen to them. It’s a relaxing, inactive pastime and you never know, you might just learn something new.
