5 Places in Queensland, Australia I would love to Work
For the past week I have been thinking about different places people work. Our lifestyle provides us with a unique opportunity to have a new view from our office every single day if we choose. Sometimes the view isn’t that inspiring, but once and a while you strike a place that makes you sit back and think ‘yep this is exactly why I’m living this life’.
This week I am in Bansko, a ski resort town in Bulgaria. Surrounded by mountains and pine forests with a view of snow falling out my window each morning (not the norm for a boy from Brisbane, Australia) it’s hard not to be inspired. On top of the mountain there is a small restaurant with the largest wood fire I’ve seen that I have been eyeing off to work from. At 2600m elevation, the view is magnificent! The journey to work … well it involves a gondola, two chair lifts and about 20 minutes of snow boarding.
Yes I’ll happily swap that commute to a train journey back in Brisbane any day. This got me thinking about home for some reason and all the places that I have had the opportunity to work from in one way or another. So I thought I would compile a list of 5 of the best places in Queensland (QLD) that I have worked from, or would like to work from, including places I’ve lived and places I’ve visited during QLD holidays.
So without further ado, here are 5 places in Queensland I would like to work from.
Daintree Rainforest
Gold Coast Hinterland
Rainbow Beach, Noosa
Dunk Island, Whitsundays
Airlie Beach
A note on working in Australia
One of the major difficulties for digital nomads in Australia is the current economic climate. Australia in the most part has been pretty immune to the economic crisis due to a strong natural resource industry. The overall strong economy has pushed the Australian dollar over parity with the US Dollar which means your money doesn’t go as far.
Only 10 years ago for every US Dollar you would get $1.40 Australian. Now you get about 96c. This coupled with strong inflation has seen tourism operators suffer. So in terms of travel the rising (or falling dollar depending on which way you look at it) may be offset by tourism operators discounting to try an attract business.
Queensland has some of the most amazing weather in the world and, although harsh at times, there is plenty of sunshine to make using it as a base for a digital nomad truly worth the time and expense.
