Moving the Office to Unknown Locations
Today we move again. This time we leave Paris and take the TGV to our friends’ country home outside of Avignon. This will be the most rural location of our trip so far. The home does not have internet.
This brings up the question of how you find a way to connect in rural locations. I did an internet search of small towns nearby and found the chambers of commerce or tourists offices. One had a web site with an associated email. I sent a message asking if there were internet cafes in town and explaining my work situation. No answer. Even with the advantage of staying with native friends, I am at a loss for how to know what is there. My friends use this home for vacation and do not concern themselves with internet while there.
Because of my inability to plan ahead for internet during this leg of the trip I have cancelled business for two weeks.
However, if I really needed to keep working, here would be some options.
- I could have purchased a GSM cell phone and bought a France SIM card to conduct calls. However, the reception may not have been great in this area
- I could get a calling card for international calls and connect via the home phone system.
- I could connect to the internet via the cell phone.
I’ve decided against these in this case mostly because I need a holiday after 6 years without a non-working vacation. But,for those of you who are wondering about what to do in this situation – the above would be my options to keep working.
The newest pics are of Notre Dame, Saint Chappelle, the Louvre and Tuileries. We all have blisters on our feet and hurting legs but big smiles on our faces and a lot of happy memories.
