New Work Alternative for Would Be Nomads
In speaking with one of my coaching clients this morning, she mentioned a recent article in Business Week Online about a new trend called "homeshoring". Basically, it discusses a trend in companies towards hiring at-home workers. Related to this is a whole new service that aids companies in monitoring these at-home workers to allay fears by employers that these workers may be slacking off. The weird thing is it allows companies to actually see workers in their homes via web cams, get stats on mouse clicks, etc. I’m not really sure how I feel about this although at first it seems a bit creepy.
On the positive side, however, if more companies begin allowing people to work away from the office, this should translate to more freedom for workers to have their offices wherever they want. So, if you want to set up your web cam in your hut on Tahiti – so be it. And what this means for would be nomads is that there should be a much wider variety of skills that will allow people to earn incomes while traveling.
