Portuguese After 3 Months – How a Nomadic Child Learns

Before our departure to Brazil I posted a video of our (then 8 year old) Mia learning Portuguese on the computer using the Rosetta Stone.  I wanted to update you all with this new video.  This is Mia, (now 9) after 3 months in Brazil having attended a Brazilian Waldorf School (Escola Waldorf Anaba in Florianopolis Brazil).  Watch the first video and then see her progress.  She is reciting the morning verse and song that they do each day.  At the end she is copying the teacher who is reprimanding a boy for his behavior.  She has really thrived in this school experience, making friends with the other children and learning at a rapid rate. In addition, it’s been great to see her artwork blossom with new vibrant colors that she is surrounded with here on this beautiful island.

    Awesome.. my suspicion confirmed. When we were in Thailand for over a month, my daughter was taking on Thai and Burmese- she is 6. I so look forward to our experience of living abroad as a family! Keep the inspiration coming! :-)

      Yes, it is amazing to watch how they learn and retain things. Her accent is better than all of the rest of ours!

    Yes, when I was young I had grandparents in South America who wanted me to visit but my mother would never send me for fear of danger in their country. I often wonder how my life might have been different had I had the opportunity for an international experience early in life. I guess I'll never know, but it's probably one of my motives for taking our own children on travels now.
