Posted in: Featured

Living the life of a digital nomad is a great way to escape the daily grind and see more of the world. But it’s important to remember that you are working as well as traveling, and finding places that are well suited to that is important when choosing destinations.

You need to make sure that you pick places that are well-equipped for working but also have plenty to do in your downtime. Kuala Lumpur is one of those places. Here’s why Kuala Lumpur is the perfect destination for digital nomads.

Digital Nomad's Guide To Kuala Lumpur

Cheap Cost Of Living

The cost of living should always be a priority for digital nomads when they are trying to decide where to go. If your general living expenses are low, that means you have the freedom and flexibility to take breaks from work, and you won’t spend the whole time stressing about how you are going to pay your bills.

The general cost of living in Kuala Lumpur is lower than it is in the US or anywhere in Europe. On average, you can expect to spend around $10 per day on your food and drink. There are options for expensive fine dining, but there are also plenty of food courts where you can get cheap meals, so it’s really up to you how much you spend.

The cost of accommodation also varies a lot depending on the location. There are some beautiful luxury places in areas like kl trader square, an up and coming place that is perfect for digital nomads. But if you are looking for something more affordable, you should look outside of the city and live in the suburbs. Even in the more expensive areas, the rent averages at around $700 per month, which is not unreasonable.

Great Internet Connection

The quality of the internet connection is obviously a big concern for digital nomads because you can’t get much work done without it. The speeds in Malaysia tend to be quite fast wherever you go and Kuala Lumpur has lots of public spaces with free wifi, although the free options are not always as fast as you need them to be. Alternatively, you can use a SIM with an internet bundle which are readily available throughout the country and usually get pretty good speeds.

Affordable Transport

The cost of getting around in Kuala Lumpur is very low, and in most cases, it’s cheaper than it is in the rest of Asia. You can use taxi apps like Uber and Grab to find cheap rides around the city. There are local taxis available but they are usually a lot more expensive and they can be dangerous. If you want to stay safe while traveling and save money, it’s best to stick with the taxi apps.

The public transport is cheap and easy to use as well. The buses are all incredibly clean and comfortable, and a long distance ride costs less than $10. Local routes are next to nothing and you can easily find the departure times online. You shouldn’t have any problems with the buses because they run regularly and they’re usually on time.

Alternatively, you could rent a scooter or a car and drive around yourself. Scooters are cheap but if you are not a confident driver, they aren’t the best option because it’s a very busy city with lots of people on the roads, and it gets very chaotic. Renting a car is a much easier option and Kuala Lumpur is a good city to drive in with well maintained roads. As long as you are over 21, you can rent a car and it’s not that expensive.

Great Nightlife And Attractions

Choosing a destination isn’t just about work, it’s also about fun, and there’s plenty of that to be had in Kuala Lumpur. It’s a beautiful city with a rich culture, and the nightlife is amazing too. There are so many great restaurants, clubs and bars and the variety is huge. There are plenty of cheap and cheerful places but you will also find some fancy cocktails bars too.

In terms of attractions, there are some incredible things to see while you’re in Kuala Lumpur. The Batu Caves with their amazing painted stairs and awe-inspiring temple are a must-see. You also get the chance to visit Taman Negara, the largest and oldest rainforest in Malaysia, where you’ll discover some incredible wildlife.

Kuala Lumpur is the perfect destination for digital nomads because it’s a beautiful multicultural city with so much to see and do. The cost of living is low and all of the right amenities are there too, so it’s just as good for working as it is for exploring.
