The great thing about being an expat is that it can open the door to a lot of new adventures and opportunities. In the process of moving and working however, you may find that it is easy to neglect your health and that it is more convenient to just focus on living right now. The truth is that it can take a lot of time to learn about things such as local foods, and as a result, you may find that it is very easy for you to rely on fast food or unhealthy meals as a short-term solution.

Travel by Bike

One of the best things that you can do to try and stay healthy when you are living abroad would be to use your bike as your main means of transportation. Commuting distances like this can easily help you to stay in shape, and it may even give you a new sense of appreciation for your surroundings as well. If you want to stay fit, then you can incorporate other exercises too, such as by using a hack squat machine or even trying to see if it is possible to sign up for a local gym membership.

Drink Lots of Water

Adjusting to a new country can easily take its toll on your body. This is especially the case if you do not stay as hydrated as you could. Changes in altitude or even temperature can easily change the amount of water that you need to operate at your maximum efficiency. If you can, you have to make sure that you are listening to your body’s cues. Drink whenever you need to. A lot of people say that you need to drink around 8-ounce glasses of water every day, but if you are unable to do this or if you don’t feel as though you personally need this much, then again, listen to your body and what it is trying to tell you.

Bring the Right Medication

With the stress of moving always on your mind, you may find that it is incredibly easy for you to forget about things such as medication. This is your reminder to not make this mistake yourself. At the end of the day, your home country will probably have a lot of effective medications, but finding the same medication in the country you are in right now can be difficult, not to mention almost impossible if you are dealing with language barriers. If you want to do something about this then you need to try and take enough medication with you to last for the duration of your trip. Practice Self-Control

If you move to any new country, or if you are staying in a country over the long term for work purposes, then you may find it tempting to try some of the local dishes. This is great, but it can easily add a couple of inches to your waistline. The best way for you to avoid missing out would be to try and practice portion control. That way you can sample everything you want, without overindulging.
